Lost Memories by G. Fletcher

The camera is carefully purchased,
recording first steps,
new puppies,
Christmas ribbons,
a toothless grin,
the Grand Canyon at dusk;
last-ever chance and
first opportunity;
focusing a moment in time
on which to hang our
memories.
(We don't count the cost of film and developers.)

But wait - which shoe box holds
our middle child's 16th birthday?
Why is yellow staining the
fourth-grade smile,
the many-hued honeymoon sunset of
ten years ago dissolving
into streaks of red?
And who is this lady looking at
us so solemnly from her fur -
topped flapper costume?
(Have we built our mountains of remembrances on foundations of sand?)

Memories

The memories that we share of our family are those that shaped our personality. Whether we like it or not, our personality was formed by our parents, brother's and sisters, and the environment that we grew up in. Some do not want to remember and choose to believe that ignorance is bliss. They cut off ties with their families and interact with them only on the major holidays. They choose to act as if they were hatched out of an egg as a full grown adult. This thinking is catastrophic. The truth is we can only grow as human beings when we choose to confront our past. If our childhoods experiences were abusive, then we don't necessarily need to face our abusers, but we do need to face the fact that we were abused only then can we move forward in our lives.

Tearsdrop From My Eyes For 3 Times In A Day.. =.="

Man... I hate today, Friday, 18 of July 2008

I wake up 6.15 in the morning and get ready to go school. Ok.. Bus arrive my house at 6.50am. I went in the bus.. And sleep inside the bus, as usual. Then 7.20am reach school. As usual also, we had assembly in the morning before went in the class.. Ok.. The 1st two period is English. Hmm.. What teacher teach that day?? Ermmm.. Oh yeah! She teach 'The Pearl'.. Like always, the malays listening, the indians chatting and the chinese sleeping of course except for the chinese girls la. We were listening to teacher also. Then is Account period. Oh no.. Pn Wong is boring. Dunno what the hell is she teaching also. The Chinese never listen to her in class. All were sleeping, listen to songs, chit chatting or doing their own work. They would just ignore the teacher. Hahaha...

Yeah!!! At 10.10am, guess what?? This is the most active time for us. Cause is recess!!! Hahaha.. All the chinese guys would go recess much earlier than us. Ermmm.. What is eat that day?? Couldn't remember la. I think is mee hun siam. What else??? Oh ya! Also eat a pack of keropok, sharing with ying and xuan.

Oh no.. not again! Is 10.30am now.. Its went so fast.. The time. We had to study again. Now is Moral and Islam period. U know what? I hate their Islam teacher. Everday face black black. See also sienz.. Want go in ours class take things also will get scold. How about her student come in their class take things?? Then our teacher had to treat them so nice.. Shit la. We went in our class and take our things then go to 5S4 before the teacher came in. Our Moral teacher, Pn. Saadah is nice. She never scold anyone. But today she absent. Dunno why. Some others teacher came in to replace her class. Ermm.. the 1st teacher was so palia.. She act like she had been in this school for years but she is a new teacher look like in her 20s. She gave us some work to do la. But u know la. Like always, when no teacher came in. We will start talking. Hahaha..

Everything was fine, smooth, ok. But not until the 2nd period of Moral. The 2nd teacher come in.. She was not bad at all, even though she is also an Islam teacher. She came in and gave us some moral work to do also. Why i said everything was smooth but until now? u know why? Cause i LOST my hand phone, Nokia N70. I didn't notice that until i was in my last period of that day, Math. I notice it when i reaching in my pocket to took tissue.. When i run back to 5S4, my phone is already gone, lost. I confirm is the place who is a Malay had took it.. I feel like wanna cry. Throw things.. But what can i do? I was in school.. I cant do that.. There is so many people in school. I keep finding it in 5S4 and 5V1. But i just couldn't find it. I also lend Lian's phone to call my number. But just couldn't reach it. Is off. At that time, I confirm my phone is lost..

So, what can i do? I gave up.. Dunno what to do. Dunno want sit bus go back. Or want walk to grandma house also.. I was so blur... But when i reach the gate of my school. Yee Va and Xuan was still there. Finding where i am. Why?? Cause my sister called Yee Va cause she cant reach me.. (My phone was lost) They was like so angry.. Asking me, where the hell i have been and my bro finding me. I told them that my phone was lost. Then i lend Yee Va phone to call back my sister. Sorry la, Yee Va. I know you out of credit. But that time i was so piss, so sad and so blur. Dunno what to do. My brother and sister told me that they were waiting me at S.E.LEE, ask me to walk there. And of cause i told them that i lost my phone, that why i cant receive their call. Not that i dont want answer your call.

So i walk to S.E.LEE there. I went in the car. My brother face was so angry. He start scold me and questioning me. Ask me, how did i lost it, when did i lost it, where did i lost it.. And i answer him all. He also said, ' now how? u lost my N70. So u buy another handphone for me..' At that time, i was so scare and so sad. Whatever he said, i would just answer ok. Then he end up saying, 'I just kidding la. Lost ma lost la. Just go buy another new phone lo.' And i start to cry. I memang want to cry already at school just tahan only.

After i start crying, they only said wanna go AEON. I crying all the way until AEON. Bro and sis wanna go there eat BBQ Plaza. On the way, bro keep asking why i cry? Just lost a phone. No need to cry. But you know.. If a things u use long long time, u will got perasaan 1. Just feel so kek sim.. How could i lost a phone? And the phone got so many memories.. Got so many picture. The price is at RM1500. But he say have to go home research 1st wor.. ok lo.. anything.. Got no mood also. Then we go makan at BBQ Plaza. I also got no mood to eat.. I stop crying already but i will start crying suddenly while eating half way.. Ya. I know. A lot people watching. But dont care la. Who cares? I tak kenal also... This was my 1st cry..

After eating, Bro brought us to Pandamaran to eat YuYuIce. Then, go home lo. I got no mood ma.. then come back terus watch tv.. didnt change baju also. Just wanna have my brain to stop thinking about N70. But cant stop thinking. Then i open laptop to search for new phone.. See what phone is nicer and better.. The nicer or the better, the more expensive it is.. Then tak tahan la.. So i change my uniform into pyjamas and went to sleep. Just dont wanna think so much.

Sleep until 5pm. Wake up, bath, and get ready. Why? Cause have to go airport. Sister going back Australia today ma.. Her flight is 9.25pm but 7.25pm have to reach LCCT Airport. But.. Plot

The film begins with the Joker robbing a mob-owned bank, and double crossing his accomplices so he can have all the money. That night, multiple Batman impersonators interrupt a meeting between mobsters and the Scarecrow. The real Batman shows up and subdues everyone, but injuries suffered during the confrontation force him to acquire a new, more versatile suit of armor. Batman and Lieutenant James Gordon contemplate bringing new district attorney Harvey Dent in on their plan to eradicate the mob, and the possibility that Dent will become the hero to the people that Batman cannot be. At the same time, Bruce Wayne and Harvey are both competing for the love of Rachel Dawes. The mob bosses meet to discuss how to handle Batman, Gordon, and Dent, while a Chinese mobster accountant, Lau, lets the gang leaders know he has taken their money to Hong Kong to prevent the police and the district attorney from seizing it in an imminent bank raid. The Joker arrives and proposes to kill Batman for them, and also tries to convince them that Lau will give them all up to the police if he is caught.

After Batman successfully abducts Lau in Hong Kong and delivers him to the Gotham City police, the mobsters agree to pay the Joker half of their money in return for killing Batman. The Joker tells all of Gotham that if the Batman does not turn himself in to the police, then he will kill people every day. When the Joker begins killing off public officials, including Commissioner Loeb, despite the best efforts of the police and Batman to stop him, Wayne decides to turn himself in to the police. Before he can do so, Dent publically admits to being "the Batman" to draw the Joker out of hiding. The Joker attempts to kill Dent during transport, but Gordon and Batman intervene in time to stop and arrest him. With the Joker in custody, Batman interrogates the Joker until he reveals that Rachel and Dent have been taken to opposite sides of the city, far-enough apart that Batman does not have time to save both of them.

Batman speeds off to save Rachel, while Gordon and the police head after Dent. Unknown to them, the Joker has switched the locations, sending Batman after Dent and Gordon after Rachel. With the help of a pre-planted phone bomb, the Joker escapes with Lau in tow. Batman arrives and rescues Dent just as both buildings explode; the left side of Dent's face is burned during the explosion. Gordon does not reach Rachel in time; she dies in the explosion. In the hospital, Dent is driven to madness over the loss of Rachel, which he blames on Batman, Gordon and the Joker. The Joker frees Harvey from the hospital and convinces him to exact revenge on the cops, mobsters, Gordon and Batman.

While "Harvey Two-Face" confronts the corrupt cops and the mobsters one by one, flipping a coin to decide their fates, the Joker burns Lau at the top of the clown's share of mob money. The Joker then declares that he will rule the streets and that anyone left in Gotham at nightfall will be subject to his rule. The Joker plants explosives on two ferries of evacuees and gives the passengers on board the chance to destroy the opposing vessel, one full of prison convicts and another with civilians, in order to save their own lives. Batman tracks the Joker to an uncompleted skyscraper. Batman prevents the Joker from blowing up the ferries when both vessels' occupants decide they would rather die than kill innocents.

Dangling from a wire, the Joker acknowledges that Batman really is incorruptible, but that Dent was not, and that he has unleashed Harvey's madness upon the city. Batman finds Gordon and his family with Dent at the building where Rachel died. Two-Face proceeds to judge Batman, himself, and Gordon's son through the chance of a coin flip, which he sees as the only fairness left in the world. Two-Face shoots Batman in the stomach, but before he can determine the boy's fate, Batman tackles him over the side of the building, saving Gordon's son. As Dent lies motionless on the ground, Batman and Gordon decide that the Joker would win if anyone found out about Dent's corruption and madness. Batman convinces Gordon to let him take all the blame for Dent's murders in order to preserve Dent's image as Gotham's hero and give the city hope. As Gordon destroys the Bat-Signal, a manhunt is issued for Batman.

Cast and characters

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman: A billionaire who has dedicated himself to protecting Gotham City from the criminal underworld. Bale was confident in his choice to return in the role because of the positive response to his performance in Batman Begins.[5] He trained in the Keysi Fighting Method,[6] and performed many of his own stunts.[5] He did not gain as much muscle this time, because of the storyline in which Batman builds a new suit that allows him to move with more agility.[7]

The actor described Batman's dilemma as whether "[his crusade is] something that has an end. Can he quit and have an ordinary life? The kind of manic intensity someone has to have to maintain the passion and the anger that they felt as a child, takes an effort after awhile, to keep doing that. At some point, you have to exorcise your demons."[8] He added, "Now you have not just a young man in pain attempting to find some kind of an answer, you have somebody who actually has power, who is burdened by that power, and is having to recognize the difference between attaining that power and holding on to it."[2] Bale felt because Batman's personality was strongly established in the first film, it was unlikely that his character would be overshadowed by the villains, stating: "I have no problem with competing with someone else. And that's going to make a better movie."[9]

Heath Ledger as The Joker: Heath Ledger described the Joker as a "psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy".[10] Nolan had wanted to work with Ledger on a number of projects in the past, but had been unable to do so.[11] When Ledger saw Batman Begins, he realized a way to make the character work consistent with that film's tone,[12] and Nolan agreed with his anarchic interpretation.[11] To prepare for the role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's posture, voice and psychology, and kept a diary, in which he recorded the Joker's thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance.[9][13] While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice that did not sound like Jack Nicholson's take on the character in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film.[10][13] He was also given Batman: The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth to read, which he "really tried to read [...] and put it down".[12] Ledger also cited inspirations such as A Clockwork Orange and Sid Vicious, which were "a very early starting point for Christian [Bale] and I [sic]. But we kind of flew far away from that pretty quickly and into another world altogether."[14][15] "There’s a bit of everything in him. There’s nothing that consistent," Ledger said, adding that "There are a few more surprises to him."[14] Before Ledger was confirmed to play the Joker in July 2006,[16] Paul Bettany,[17] Lachy Hulme,[18] Adrien Brody,[19] Steve Carell,[20] and Robin Williams[21] publicly expressed interest in the role.

On January 22, 2008, after he had completed filming The Dark Knight, Ledger suddenly died, leading to intense press attention and memorial tributes. In March 2008, four months prior to the film's scheduled release, Larry Carroll reported that "like Batman himself, Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal and director Christopher Nolan find themselves shifting gears between being secretive, superheroic and fighting back a deep sadness."[15] "It was tremendously emotional, right when he passed, having to go back in and look at him every day," Nolan recalled. "But the truth is, I feel very lucky to have something productive to do, to have a performance that he was very, very proud of, and that he had entrusted to me to finish."[15] All of Ledger's scenes appear as he completed them in the filming; in editing the film, Nolan added no "digital effects" to alter Ledger's actual performance posthumously.[22] Nolan has dedicated the film in part to Ledger's memory, as well as to the memory of technician Conway Wickliffe, who was killed during a car accident while preparing one of the film's stunts.[23][24]

Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face: The Gotham district attorney who is hailed as Gotham's "White Knight"; Dent's battle with the Joker turns Dent into a murderous, disfigured vigilante called "Two-Face".[25][26] Producer Charles Roven described Dent as initially the "white knight of the city".[27] Wayne sees Dent as his heir, which comes back to the theme of him realizing that being Batman will be a lifelong mission, and the tragedy that follows when Dent is corrupted.[24] Whereas Two-Face is an evil villain in the comics, Nolan chose to portray him as a twisted vigilante to emphasize his role as Batman's counterpart, and Eckhart, who has played corrupt men in films such as The Black Dahlia, Thank You For Smoking and In the Company of Men, notes: "[He] is still true to himself. He's a crime fighter, he's not killing good people. He's not a bad guy, not purely," while admitting: "I'm interested in good guys gone wrong."[25][26] Nolan and David S. Goyer had originally considered using Dent in Batman Begins, but they replaced him with the new character Rachel Dawes when they realized they "couldn’t do him justice".[28][29] Before Eckhart was cast in February 2007, Liev Schreiber,[30] Josh Lucas,[31] and Ryan Phillippe[32] had expressed interest in the role.[33] Nolan chose Eckhart, whom he had considered for the lead role in Memento, citing his "extraordinary" ability as an actor, his embodiment of "that kind of chiselled, American hero quality" projected by Robert Redford, and his subtextual "edge".[9]

Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes: The Gotham assistant D.A. and childhood friend of Bruce Wayne, she is one of the few people who know that he is Batman. Gyllenhaal took over the role from Katie Holmes, who had performed it in Batman Begins. In August 2005, Holmes was reported to be planning to reprise the role,[34], but in January 2007, she turned it down due to scheduling conflicts.[35]. By March 2007, Gyllenhaal was in "final talks" for the part.[36] Gyllenhaal has acknowledged that her character is a damsel in distress to an extent, but says that Nolan sought ways to empower her character so that "Rachel's really clear about what's important to her and unwilling to compromise her morals, which made a nice change" from the many conflicted characters whom she has previously portrayed.[37]

Supporting characters include:

Beatrice Rosen plays a Russian ballet dancer. Joshua Harto plays a lawyer who becomes a target of the Joker. Chucky Venice plays a bodyguard of Gambol. Keith Szarabajka plays Detective Stephens. Edison Chen cameos in a minor role.[41] Batman fan and United States Senator Patrick Leahy, who previously was an extra in the 1997 Batman & Robin and also was a guest voice actor on Batman: The Animated Series, has a cameo in The Dark Knight in a scene with Batman and the Joker.[42] Melinda McGraw and Nathan Gamble appear as James Gordon's wife and son.

Doomsday

In 2008, a lethal plague ("Reaper") has infected Scotland. As the country is walled off by the British government to quarantine the infected, a young girl, Eden, is amongst the last to be airlifted out. Her mother is left behind, but not before thrusting an envelope marked with their home address in to Eden's hands. In 2033, a fully-grown Eden (Rhona Mitra) is a Major in the Department of Domestic Security. The Reaper virus has broken out in London, and the Prime Minister (Alexander Siddig) orders an excursion into Scotland to locate medical researcher Dr Kane (Malcolm MacDowell), who was attempting to find a cure prior to the quarantine and whom the Prime Minister hopes has since been able to find a cure.

Eden is teamed with a small group comprising military personnel and two medical scientists and crosses the border in two Armoured personnel carriers. The group heads to the Glasgow hospital at which Kane was researching a cure before the quarantine was placed, but are ambushed by violent cannibalistic bandits. Eden and several others are captured and taken to the tribe's leader, Sol (Craig Conway). Eden tells him the purpose of her mission, and Sol reveals that Dr Kane had told them all that nothing remained of the world outside Scotland. The group holds a Rock concert-style show, which culminates in the killing and eating of one of the scientists who accompanied Eden into Scotland. Eden manages to escape with the help of another prisoner, Cally (MyAnna Buring), killing Sol's girlfriend in the process. Cally reveals that she is Kane's daughter and Sol is in fact her brother and knows where to find Kane. Cally and Eden meet up with the two surviving members of Eden's team and a group of rebels associated with Cally.

After being pursued by Sol's group, the rebels eventually escape Glasgow on a train from an abandoned Queen Street Station heading north to Kane's settlement in the Highlands. After disembarking from the train, they are confronted by a patrol of horsemen, who are commanded by Dr Kane. They are taken to a nearby castle, where Kane has established a neo-Feudal commune. He tells Eden that he doesn’t care about the outside world and that there is no cure for the virus. The people that are alive have survived through natural selection simply because they’re immune. Dr Kane then forces Eden to fight his best warrior in a gladiatorial style duel. Eden kills him and escapes, finding a cell phone in a cache of supplies in an old fallout shelter. Eden, Cally and one surviving member of her troop make their escape in a Bentley Continental GT also found in the shelter.

In England, when one of the infected infiltrates the Government's headquarters and is shot by Eden's former commander, Nelson (Bob Hoskins), while in close proximity to the Prime Minister, the PM is sprayed with blood. Rather than die of the plague, he commits suicide. His aide, Canaris (David O'Hara), reveals his plans to take over the country. Eden calls Nelson's cell phone, telling him she has what they're looking for. Canaris takes the cell phone and orders the call traced.

Eden is followed by Sol and his bandits and a violent car chase ensues. Sol jumps into Eden's car, and is killed by decapitation when the car drives through one of the chasing vehicles. Eden meets with Canaris, telling him that because those in Scotland are immune, Cally's blood could help to find a vaccine. Canaris admits wanting to let the plague continue spreading before planning to bring the cure to the masses. Eden stays in Scotland and is visited by Nelson at her mother's house. She doesn't find her mother but finds a picture of the two. Nelson found her through the envelope, which she gave him to look after, and she lets him keep as she now has a picture to remember her mother by. She gives him a tape recording of the conversation with Canaris in order for Nelson to use it to incriminate him.

Eden travels to Sol’s gang's hideout carrying Sol’s head. After she throws it down in front of the gang saying "If you're hungry, try a piece of your friend", they cheer, and accept her as their new leader.

  • Rhona Mitra as Eden Sinclair, the leader of the elite team sent to find a cure.[2] The heroine was inspired by the character Snake Plissken.[3] Mitra worked out and trained in fighting for eleven weeks for the film. • Bob Hoskins as Bill Nelson, Sinclair's police chief who nominates Sinclair for the mission and monitors her progress.

Prom Night

As the film opens, high school student Donna Keppel (Brittany Snow) is driving home from the movies. When she goes into her house, she sees her brother dead. She then runs under her bed in her room because she hears the killer. She witnesses her mother murdered by Richard Fenton (Johnathon Schaech), a teacher at her school who has become obsessed with her. Three years later, Donna, about to graduate and living with her aunt Karen (Jessalyn Gilsig) and uncle Jack (Linden Ashby), is in therapy and taking Klonopin (a sedative) to deal with the trauma of losing her family and her persistent nightmares. Donna, her boyfriend Bobby (Scott Porter), her friends Lisa (Dana Davis), Ronnie (Collins Pennie), Michael (Kelly Blatz) and Claire (Jessica Stroup) make plans to attend their senior prom together.

Meanwhile, Detective Winn (Idris Elba), the police officer responsible for imprisoning Fenton, learns that Fenton has escaped three days before Donna's senior prom and decides to stake out Donna's prom.

At the prom, which is being held at the Pacific Grand Hotel, Donna and her friends get keys to a suite in the hotel. Fenton is already at the hotel. He gets a room in the hotel and kills the housekeeper to obtain the master key, then hides in Donna's hotel room. She hears noises and calls out but no one answers. She opens the door and Claire, who has been in a fight with Michael, surprises her. Claire says that she will be back down when she fixes her make-up. After Donna leaves, Claire hears noises and checks to see if it is Donna. Fenton then grabs her around the throat, pushes her into the bedroom and despite her screams for help, she is stabbed and killed.

Detectives Winn and Nash (James Ransone), Winn's partner, find the body of a man named Ramsey supposedly registered at the hotel. It turns out that Fenton killed this man and stole his car, clothes and wallet to get a room. The Car was reported stolen by his wife.

Up in the suite's bathroom, Fenton is looking at pictures taken when Donna was in the limousine. Claire's dead body is lying on the bathroom floor with stab marks in her. Michael comes into the suite to see if Claire will accept his apology. He sees the bathroom door locked and tries to open it unaware the killer is inside, he cannot open the door so sits down on a sofa, the bathroom door then opens and he looks round and see nobody and then checks the bathroom he does not find Claire, then while exiting sees the closet door shut. He goes up to the closet and opens it and sees Fenton's face. Fenton jumps at him and stabs him to death.

Back downstairs, Donna, Bobby, Lisa and Ronnie are sitting at a table, and they notice that Claire and Michael have been missing for a while. The hotel reception can't contact their suite's maid so they get a employee to go and see where she is. He asks Fenton if he has seen the maid and Fenton says that she is in his room. The man goes in and Fenton kills him to obtain his uniform.

Lisa and Ronnie head up to the suite and Lisa bumps into Fenton in the elevator. She realizes that it is Fenton when Ronnie and her are having a romantic moment. She panics and says she has to get to Donna to warn her. She leaves Ronnie confused and frustrated because he was just about to propose. She runs out of the room and rushes to the stairs. While she is running down the stairs, her heel snaps off and she falls and hits the floor. She sees Fenton at the top of the stairs and runs down the rest of the stairs into a part of the hotel under construction. Lisa walks through the room and sees an elevator. She runs over to it and presses the button. She looks behind her, and Fenton is not there. She turns back around and he is standing in front of her. She screams and falls over, and then Lisa gets up and runs away, closing a door behind her. She hides under a table. Ronnie comes down in the elevator looking for her but she does not yell because Fenton is standing close by with a knife and would kill Ronnie if she did. Ronnie then goes back up and Fenton walks away. Ronnie walks up to Donna and says he can't find Lisa so Donna goes to look for her because Ronnie has to get on stage for the announcement of prom king and queen. Back on the construction floor, Lisa thinks Fenton is gone, so she gets out from under the table and walks towards the elevator. She accidentally knocks over some paint tins which create a lot of noise. She starts to run backwards, and backs right into him and he grabs her and slits her throat, spraying her blood on the plastic covers.

Detective Winn heads up to the room registered to Fenton's victim, Mr. Ramsey. He is in there cleaning the blood off his knife. Winn doesn't find Fenton but he finds the body of the maid in the bathtub. Now knowing for sure that Fenton is in the building, he triggers the emergency alarm to evacuate the building and tells his associate to find Donna and put her in protective custody immediately. Downstairs, the prom king and queen are about to be announced when the alarm goes off. Detective Nash comes in and tells everyone to evacuate the hotel. Chrissy gets angry and snatches the paper from the teacher and sees that Lisa and Ronnie were the prom queen and king.

While everyone is leaving, Winn is looking for Donna, who is in the bathroom looking for Lisa. She comes out and asks what is going on. A guy tells her that they have to go outside. Donna left her mom's shawl in the suite and asks him to tell Bobby that she will meet him outside. Donna goes upstairs to retrieve the shawl. By now the whole hotel is outside. Donna enters the suite looking for Lisa and Claire but no one is there. She goes over to the closet and gets her shawl. While she is there, Fenton is behind her. When she goes to the door, Fenton is there. Donna cries and backs away, falling over a chair. She gets up quickly and runs into the bedroom, locking both doors. She looks through the peephole and sees Fenton. He gets a fire extinguisher and bangs the door with it, trying to get through. Donna screams and goes into the next room. Fenton has busted a hole in the door and enters the room, looking for Donna, who is hiding under the bed. Fenton first goes into the other room. Donna sees Claire's body next to her under the bed.

Outside, Detective Winn is looking for Donna and a guy tells him that she went back to the suite to get the shawl and Winn races upstairs. Back in the suite, Fenton picks up her shawl. He walks back into the bedroom and bends down, looking under the bed that Donna isn't under. Donna gets out and runs out of the room and runs into Winn and Nash. Donna is hysterical, distraught, and crying. She tells them that Fenton is in the suite and Claire is dead under the bed. Winn searches Donna's suite for Fenton but he isn't there. Donna makes it outside safely. Ronnie is outside and asks Donna if she saw Lisa. Donna says no and tells Ronnie that Claire's dead. Nash drives her back to her house with Bobby. Winn and a police team search the hotel for Fenton but he is not there. They find Lisa's body on the construction floor. They tell Ronnie and he is distraught.

Donna gets home and hugs her aunt and tells her that it's all happening again.

Winn finds a hotel employee's body up in the ceiling and realizes that Fenton escaped wearing the hotel employee's uniform. He rushes back to Donna's house to warn her. He calls Nash, who is stationed outside Donna's home, on the way and tells him to get into the house. He sees that the house's phone line has been cut.

Donna goes to the bathroom and takes some pills. She looks behind her and sees that the window is open and shuts it. She goes back to bed. Winn arrives to find Nash dead in his car, throat slashed. In Donna's room, she thanks Bobby for staying. When he doesn't reply, she rolls him over and sees that his throat has been slit. She gasps and gets off the bed. She sees a shadow out in the hallway. Thinking it is Fenton she hides in her closet. She sees that it is actually Winn and is about to come out when Fenton, who had been hiding in the closet, grabs Donna and puts his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming. Winn does not know she is in there. He is about to open the closet but Donna's aunt screams so Winn goes into her room instead. As Fenton is about to leave the closet with Donna, she bites him and runs but Fenton grabs her leg and she falls over. She struggles and kicks him in the face and screams for help. Fenton is about to stab Donna when Winn comes back in and shoots Fenton several times, killing him.

Made Of Honor

Tom and Hannah met in college when he accidentally slipped in her bed thinking she was her roommate. He was impressed how feisty and honest she was. He always had girls flinging themselves at him but Hannah was against all that. Tom (Patrick Dempsey) is successful in life. He's become wealthy from his invention of the "coffee collar", has plenty of guy friends to hang with, a new girl every week, and his one best friend. From the very start it's obvious this best friend is crazy about him and he takes her for granted. They go to antique stores together and guess each other desserts at a famous bakery. His best friend Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) goes to Scotland on an acquisition trip for her museum (though still manages to spend 4 out of her 6 weeks there sight seeing) and Tom realises he feels empty without her. All the girls he goes out with while she is gone complain about the antiques store or can't even play the dessert guessing game. Tom decides to tell Hannah his feelings and ask her to be with him when she returns in six weeks. Tom finds out Hannah has become engaged to a wealthy man, Colin (Kevin McKidd), in Scotland and plans to move there. Hannah asks Tom to be her "maid" of honor and he agrees so he can try to win Hannah back and stop the wedding. Tom decides to be the best maid of honor he possibly can be. He wants to show Hannah that she really doesn't know Colin all that well and that it was a mistake getting engaged so quickly. Hannah reveals that she is going to move to Scotland to be with Colin. While in Scotland, Tom plans to tell Hannah he loves her. They share a passionate kiss, then break away. Hannah then gets whisked off by her bridesmaids. That night, Hannah goes up to Tom's room to talk to him. But before she arrives, Hannah's cousin, who Tom broke up with, comes into Tom's room and attempts to seduce him. Hannah walks in right as Hannah's cousin is on top of Tom. Tom and Hannah have an argument, and Tom leaves for home. But on his way, he decides to stop the wedding. On horseback (borrowing a horse in exchange for part of his coffee collar royalties) he makes it to the chapel just in time, and kisses Hannah, who decides to cancel the marriage and marry Tom.

The Happening

In the northeastern U.S., people suddenly and inexplicably begin committing suicide en masse. First they become disoriented, then stop moving, and finally find the quickest way to kill themselves. The "pandemic" begins in parks, and quickly spreads to nearby population centers. Initially believed to be a bioterrorist attack, it later seems less likely, as the events increase in ever smaller population centers.

Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg) is a high school science teacher in Philadelphia, discussing with his students the sudden departure of the honey bee. When news of the sudden mass suicides spreads school is cancelled, and he decides to leave the city via train with his wife, Alma Moore (Zooey Deschanel), his friend and fellow teacher, Julian (John Leguizamo) and Julian's eight-year-old daughter, Jess (Ashlyn Sanchez). The train services stop in a small town in western Pennsylvania, after the crew loses contact with "everyone". Julian finds out that the "attacks" have affected Princeton, New Jersey, where his wife was located, and leaves Jess with Elliot while he hitches a ride in an attempt to find her. He and his fellow passengers fall victim to the strange calamity, and commit suicide by the quickest method possible.

Meanwhile, Elliot, Alma, and Jess manage to hitchhike with a botanist and his wife; the man explains his theory that plants are attacking people as a defense mechanism. He elaborates on the complex mechanisms that often seem to appear spontaneously, involving strategies such as attracting predators to kill off specific threats and fostering communication between different species of plants. As they drive, they find themselves surrounded on all sides by affected towns. A number of other cars arrive in the same crossroads, all fleeing places hit by the suicide epidemic. A soldier, Pfc. Auster, suggests moving away from the population centers on foot to avoid being affected, as the effect has been occurring in smaller and smaller populations.

The group of survivors splits into two, with Elliot, Alma, and Jess in a smaller group. Auster's group, arguing amongst themselves are caught within the effect, and Eliot, hearing the other group kill themselves one after another with a single pistol, concludes that it is likely caused by an airborne neurotoxin exuded by the surrounding plants. The larger the group of people, the more likely it is to trigger the defense mechanism. Elliot makes the group split into three smaller ones with Elliot, Alma, Jess, and two teenage boys staying together.

While looking for food for Jess, Elliot's group come across a boarded up house with survivors inside, still believing the pandemic to be a terrorist attack. They are unwilling to open the doors, and when the two teenage boys begin to aggressively force an entry, they are shot dead and Elliot's group is forced to leave. They make their way to the house of a woman living in complete isolation; thus, she is ignorant of the pandemic. Though she allows them to stay, she proves to be a harsh and paranoid host. In the morning, Elliot finds himself alone; going downstairs, he hears the voices of Alma and Jess but cannot find them. He inadvertently enters the old woman's room and she angrily insists that they leave immediately.

The woman storms out of the house into the garden, where she becomes affected, and kills herself. Realizing that the defense mechanism has become even more sensitive, affecting individuals, Elliot shuts himself inside the house. Elliot finds himself in a room where he can hear Alma and Jess. He finds a speaking tube, which leads to a spring house some distance from the house. Conversing with his wife, he decides that if he is to die, he would prefer to spend his remaining time with her. They leave the safety of their buildings, meeting in the yard between the two, but are surprised to find themselves unaffected by the neurotoxin. The effect seems to have abated as quickly as it began.

Three months later, Elliot and Alma have adjusted to a new life with Jess as their adopted daughter. On television, an environmentalist warns that the pandemic may only have been a warning, like a rash that precedes an infection. Elliot takes Jess to the bus stop for the first day of school while Alma stays at home, timing a home pregnancy test. When he returns, Alma greets him with a smile, and they embrace.

In France, the effect appears to happen once again as everyone in sight suddenly stops moving as the wind suddenly moves the trees.

Batman : The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight opens with Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon, and new district attorney Harvey Dent beginning to succeed in rounding up the criminals that plague Gotham City. They are unexpectedly challenged when a mysterious criminal mastermind known as the Joker appears in Gotham. Batman's struggle against the Joker becomes deeply personal, forcing him to "confront everything he believes" and to improve his technology to stop the madman's campaign of destruction.[5] During the course of the film, a love triangle develops between Bruce Wayne, Dent and Rachel Dawes.[6]

Cast and characters

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman: A billionaire who has dedicated himself to protecting Gotham City from the criminal underworld. Bale was confident in his choice to return in the role because of the positive response to his performance in Batman Begins.[7] He trained in the Keysi Fighting Method,[8] and performed many of his own stunts.[7] He did not gain as much muscle this time, because of the storyline in which Batman builds a new suit that allows him to move with more agility.[6]

The actor described Batman's dilemma as whether "[his crusade is] something that has an end. Can he quit and have an ordinary life? The kind of manic intensity someone has to have to maintain the passion and the anger that they felt as a child, takes an effort after awhile, to keep doing that. At some point, you have to exorcise your demons."[9] He added, "Now you have not just a young man in pain attempting to find some kind of an answer, you have somebody who actually has power, who is burdened by that power, and is having to recognize the difference between attaining that power and holding on to it."[2] Bale felt because Batman's personality was strongly established in the first film, it was unlikely that his character would be overshadowed by the villains, stating: "I have no problem with competing with someone else. And that's going to make a better movie."[10]

Heath Ledger as The Joker: Heath Ledger described the Joker as a "psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy".[11] Nolan had wanted to work with Ledger on a number of projects in the past, but had been unable to do so.[12] When Ledger saw Batman Begins, he realized a way to make the character work consistent with that film's tone,[13] and Nolan agreed with his anarchic interpretation.[12] To prepare for the role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's posture, voice and psychology, and kept a diary, in which he recorded the Joker's thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance.[10][14] While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice that did not sound like Jack Nicholson's take on the character in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film.[14][11] He was also given Batman: The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth to read, which he "really tried to read [...] and put it down".[13] Ledger also cited inspirations such as A Clockwork Orange and Sid Vicious, which were "a very early starting point for Christian [Bale] and I. But we kind of flew far away from that pretty quickly and into another world altogether."[15][16] "There’s a bit of everything in him. There’s nothing that consistent," Ledger said, adding that "There are a few more surprises to him."[15] Before Ledger was confirmed to play the Joker in July 2006,[17] Paul Bettany,[18] Lachy Hulme,[19] Adrien Brody,[20] Steve Carell,[21] and Robin Williams[22] publicly expressed interest in the role. On not being invited to reprise the Joker, Jack Nicholson jokingly remarked that he was "furious".[23] In turn, responding to his initially-controversial selection to play the Joker, Ledger stated publicly, "It would not matter who is chosen to play the [Joker]. [...] In any film, there is always someone who does not like you and I am secure in my choices and my record. But I know at the end of the day you are never going to please anyone 100 percent…I refuse to carbon copy a performance. That would not be a challenge and it would be mocking Mr. Nicholson, whom I have much respect for."[6]

After filming had completed, Ledger was found dead on January 22, 2008, leading to intense press attention and memorial tributes. In March 2008, four months prior to the film's scheduled release, Larry Carroll reported that "like Batman himself, Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal and director Christopher Nolan find themselves shifting gears between being secretive, superheroic and fighting back a deep sadness."[16] "It was tremendously emotional, right when he passed, having to go back in and look at him every day," Nolan recalled. "But the truth is, I feel very lucky to have something productive to do, to have a performance that he was very, very proud of, and that he had entrusted to me to finish."[16] All of Ledger's scenes appear as he completed them in the filming; in editing the film, Nolan added no "digital effects" to alter Ledger's actual performance posthumously.[24] Nolan has dedicated the film in part to Ledger's memory, as well as to the memory of technician Conway Wickliffe, who was killed during a car accident while preparing one of the film's stunts (See below).[25][26]

Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent / Two-Face: The Gotham district attorney; Dent's battle with the Joker turns Dent into a murderous, disfigured vigilante called "Two-Face".[27][28] Producer Charles Roven described Dent as initially the "white knight of the city".[29] Wayne sees Dent as his heir, which comes back to the theme of him realizing that being Batman will be a lifelong mission, and the tragedy that follows when Dent is corrupted.[26] Whereas Two-Face is an evil villain in the comics, Nolan chose to portray him as a twisted vigilante to emphasize his role as Batman's counterpart, and Eckhart, who has played corrupt men in films such as The Black Dahlia, Thank You For Smoking and In the Company of Men, notes: "[He] is still true to himself. He's a crime fighter, he's not killing good people. He's not a bad guy, not purely," while admitting: "I'm interested in good guys gone wrong."[27][28] Nolan and David S. Goyer had originally considered using Dent in Batman Begins, but they replaced him with the new character Rachel Dawes when they realized they "couldn’t do him justice".[30][31] Before Eckhart was cast in February 2007, Liev Schreiber,[32] Josh Lucas,[33] and Ryan Phillippe[34] had expressed interest in the role.[35] Nolan chose Eckhart, whom he had considered for the lead role in Memento, citing his "extraordinary" ability as an actor, his embodiment of "that kind of chiselled, American hero quality" projected by Robert Redford, and his subtextual "edge".[10]

Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes: The Gotham assistant D.A. and childhood friend of Bruce Wayne, she is one of the few people who know that he is Batman. Gyllenhaal has acknowledged that her character is a damsel in distress to an extent, adding that Nolan had sought ways to empower her character so that "Rachel's really clear about what's important to her and unwilling to compromise her morals, which made a nice change" from the many conflicted characters whom she has previously portrayed.[36] In August 2005, before the casting of Gyllenhaal, producer Charles Roven had reported that actress Katie Holmes (who portrayed Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins) was going to reprise the role in The Dark Knight[37]; however, in January 2007, Holmes turned down the offer to reprise her role as Rachel Dawes due to scheduling conflicts,[38] and, by March 2007, Gyllenhaal was in "final talks" for the part.[39]

Supporting characters include:

Beatrice Rosen and Joshua Harto both have minor roles.[51] Chucky Venice plays a bodyguard of Gambol,[52] and Keith Szarabajka plays Detective Stephens.[53] Edison Chen cameos as a villain.[54] Batman fan and United States Senator Patrick Leahy, who previously was an extra in the 1997 Batman & Robin and also was a guest voice actor on Batman: The Animated Series, will have a cameo in The Dark Knight, in a scene with Batman and the Joker.[55] Melinda McGraw and Nathan Gamble also appear as James Gordon's wife, Barbara, and their son, James, Jr.[56]
